    This is a clear case of a governmental agency creating a CATCH-22 that precludes from benefits the very people who need it most - the disabled.
    * * *
    I have a dear friend with MS who is in a ton of trouble because of the government.
    Her disability benefits (her total income) disqualify her from prescription benefits because the government has set the cutoff level for qualification at EXACTLY - to the dollar - the amount disability pays.
    Disability will not pay the $1.00 less per annum that would allow her to qualify.
    This after the disease cost this lady her house, her job (still in litigation for unfair firing), her marriage and basically her life as it was.
    She has trouble walking, seeing, etc. and the medications she needs are astronomically expensive.  Her COBRA, which she cannot afford but is struggling to maintain, is running out.
    This is a clear case of a governmental agency creating a CATCH-22 that precludes from benefits the very people who need it most - the disabled.
    She has been in touch with Senators, Congresspeople and heaven knows who else.  Through it all this intelligent and brave woman remains a fighter and an example of courage in adversity.
    Her unfair firing from a job that she could have continued to do at home (as she had been) is yet another aspect to this situation.  There has rarely been a more clear-cut case of discrimination against a victim of MS than this - a star employee with a brilliant record thrown away like garbage when her affliction became an issue.
    This is not just an MS story or a New Jersey story - it is a human story that transcends location and a situation that defies belief.   Please do what you can to help get the word out about this dreadfully unfair state of affairs and help this exceptional human being in her time of need, and that's not the worst of it, cases of injustice; like this or WORST, has affected more men than women & esp. To Black Men (due to rampet discrimination through Feminism & Racism!!).

    Next month a variety of events for adults and children will commemorate Martin Luther King Day in the Capital District. We will celebrate the accomplishments of this minister and civil rights leader, honor his commitment to nonviolent action, and, for many of us, follow his lead with a Day of Service to our communities. Here is another civil rights leader following in King's footsteps: The True Inspirational Autobigraphy of Famed Firefighter & TV Evangelist Rev. Dr. Franklyn V. Beckles, Jr., who became a hero to his Family & his Community, by no longer dwelling on his problems, and set backs, overcoming Depression, beating stress for good, through Postive Thinking, and his Faith & Ministry in God. Remarkably, through Jesus Christ; Dr. Beckes overcame overwhelmig odds & adversities: Hypertension, Cancer, Being injured on Duty, facing constant racism & harrassment from corrupt local Police & Fire Departments, struggling to support his growing family (with another baby on the way), and having the courage to continue helping people in need, despite his own troubles!!!! FROM THE DIRECTORS & WRITERS FROM OTHER INSPIRATIONAL CHRISTIAN FILMS LIKE: "FIREPROOF" "FACING THE GIANTS" AND "THE GRIDIRON GANG" .... COMES A NEW BEST SELLING BOOK TITLED "UNDEFEATABLE" & MOTION PICTURE CALLED; "GOING THROUGH THE FIRE", INSPIRED BY THE TRUE LIFE STORY OF FAMED FIREFIGHTER & COMMUNITY CHURCH LEADER: REV. DR. Eventually, through his selfless acts, as a civil & human rights advocate; helping the homeless, youth offenders, the elderly, and the wrongfully accused. Dr. Beckles overcame his own setbabcks, overcoming health problems; with help from his loving wife & having more children despite odds against him, becoming a fulltime, and accomplished TV Evangelist & famous Church Pastor, and Inspiration Filmmaker & Published Christian and Childrens Book Author!!!! • After more than a decade of slow progress in civil rights, many African Americans began to question Dr. King’s strategy of nonviolent activism. This was particularly true of young people in the 1960s, and Kekla Magoon’s 2009 novel The Rock and the River (Simon & Schuster) captures the generational divisions that emerged in the movement’s second decade. As in Hoose’s biography of Colvin, Dr. King makes an appearance in The Rock and the River, as a colleague of 13-year-old protagonist Sam Childs’s father. Sam’s father, Roland Childs, is a lawyer in Chicago and a follower of Dr. King. Sam’s older brother, Steven (who Sam has nicknamed Stick), has grown impatient with the slow rate of change and the continued racism and police brutality common even in the North. Stick, along with several older friends, has joined the Black Panthers. Sam finds himself growing closer to the Panthers, especially after the assassination of Dr. King on April 4, 1968 and the police beating of a family friend. Other heroes include Alberto Mora, the former Navy general counsel who waged a lonely battle to revoke Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld’s interrogation directive authorizing abuses at the Guantánamo Bay prison; and Antonio Taguba, the Army major general who says he was forced to retire after his frank report on the sadistic treatment of detainees at Abu Ghraib. There are others. This modest awards proposal has lately assumed a degree of urgency. After the killing of Osama bin Laden, some — like John Yoo, the Bush Justice Department lawyer who twisted the Constitution and the Geneva Conventions to excuse the inexcusable — argued that waterboarding and other abuses were both proper and necessary.
    Ten leading civil liberties and human rights groups, including the A.C.L.U. and Human Rights First, have called on President Obama to honor all who bravely said no when the country veered off course. Recognizing them would not discharge Mr. Obama’s failed duty to find ways to further accountability. But it would be a start.
